Day 4 – Keith
We started out the day a little late as we kinda tied one on last night. Waking up we headed into the wash house to shower and brush then to the pavilion for a cup of good strong coffee. Toad Rock has their own blend of coffee made by a well known roaster and you can tell it’s make for bikers.

After having some coffee and regaining our senses we decided to head into Kaslo for a bite to eat and maybe go swimming on the way back. We were quickly on the road and heading up yet another fantastic section of road that you can only find in the Kootenays and it begins right after Toad Rock with a wonderful set of suggested 30 km sweepers crossing coffee creek.
We made quick time to Kaslo and parked the bikes just of the main drag. I was a little disappointed that the restaurant that I wanted to eat at was closed so we walked down the Main Street and decide to have a bite at the Treehouse restaurant. The food and coffee were good to the point that a small line up formed outside.
After eating we decided to wander down the street and behind the hotel. We caught a glimpse of a bald eagle nesting on the pilling for the dock and tried to snap a picture. We continued on as I was hoping to take a tour of the SS Moyine, a old steam paddle wheeler that is permanently docked. Unfortunately it was under construction so we crossed the street and into… you guessed it another brewery.
The Angry Hen is a fantastic little brewery in Kaslo that recently just expanded their patio. If you’re ever passing through I highly suggest stopping.
Leah and I had brought our bathing suits with us with the plan to stop at Fletcher falls. A kind woman on the ferry from the day before said its a great place to swim and the falls are pretty spectacular so we decided to stop. The hike down was pretty steep with lots of opportunity to fall off the edge of a cliff overlooking the falls if you’re not careful. Once we got to the bottom we were greeted with this amazing cold draft of misty air coming from the falls. As I was a little overcome by the heat I decided to have a seat and just enjoy the cool air. I had to give my head a dunk in the cold water before leaving.

Once we finished at the falls it was a short 1 min walk to the beach , as there were quite a few people and not many places to change we decided to forego swimming, the climb back up to the bikes made us think we should have though.
We headed back to Toad Rock and decided that it would be just a chill day. After having a burger from Grants Grill and the pavilion becoming choked with cigarette smoke we ventured over to the site of our new friends from Chilliwack. Blair started to play this game where he would ask you what you would bring camping, if you didn’t answer correctly he would then say you could not come. It took many many rounds before Leah and I got it. You had to say something that started with the first letter of your name like for me I think I said “killer dog” at one point. After loosing all the moisture in my body from cry-laughing we decided to hit the hay as we have some plans for the next day.
