Up into the Cariboo

Day 8 – Keith

We started the day waking up and having a quick shower then heading upstairs for some coffee and breakfast. I was able to get up early enough to say my goodbye to Mark before he headed off to play a round of golf. Aunt Triss made us a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bacon and sausage. We said our goodbyes, packed up the bike and hit the road.

We fuelled up in Armstrong and began to look for Otter Lake road. This year I put a GPS onto my bike which sure made it easier to find these little gems. Otter Lake road is this great quiet little road that winds through farming country NW of Armstrong that eventually dumped us off on Highway 97.

What a weird feeling being on a road doing 100 km/h again. We road down 97 until we reached Monte Lake where they had a huge wildfire. Man you could just see how devastating that fire was with the entire NE slope outside of Monte Lake being nothing but black timbers.

We made our way onto highway 1 and into Kamloops. I had decided that I needed a tank top from the Harley shop because I really needed to even out my tan. We stopped off and while we were at the shop both of us could not stop yawing and figured we both needed a coffee. That’s when one of the nice staff told us they had a coffee machine right in the lounge area so we poured a coffee and continued to look around. I do have to say many of the shops don’t have much for parts on the floor anymore, they seem to focus on the bikes.

Hitting the road we continued up highway 97. I forgot how pretty this route is with the deep valley carved but he river. Some of the hills were painted blues, reds, yellow and browns. You almost find yourself losing your perspective of things while driving this route with everything seeming to be so large and expansive.

We made quick time to Cache Creek for fuel and to stop for a bite to eat. Leah suggested that we stop at Horstings farms for a sandwich and pie. I’ve never been and I’m willing to stop anywhere so about 3 km outside of Cache Creek we stopped. We both ordered a sandwich and figured bringing up a pie was in order. The sandwiches were pretty huge, Leah was only able to finish half of it. We picked up a blueberry cherry pie and did some figuring on how to pack it on my bike.

My new Iron horse

After leaving we headed north with more fever and quick made it to 100 Mile House. I figured we both needed to give our asses a rest so I would stop at Jackson Social house brewery. When I pulled up I was surprised to see that it was now being called the Cask and Cleaver. We were pretty surprised with the new look of the brewery and I have to say I’m looking forward to what they can put out.

We made it to Sally’s in 150 Mile House pretty quickly and were greeted by Roscoe, Sally’s old pup. Parking the bikes we settled in for a nice relaxing night with family.
