On our way home

Days 12 -13 – Keith

Well its taken me some time to recover from the nonsense that I caught. I spent the last 2 days recovering and watching the birds on Sally’s deck. Hummingbirds, Nuthatches and Grosbeaks were just amazing to watch.

Leah on the other hand was super busy trying to complete THE LIST. Sally always has a list of things to do for everyone and this year it was no different. As I was under the weather Leah even pulled the starter out of the lawn tractor to see it that was the issue. I feel that Leah did a pretty good job completing most of the list that Sally had for us.

Also I have to give a plug for Sally’s B&B. She has a lovely little suite in the basement and is just such a a wonderful location. You can find her B&B on AirB&B Sally’s B&B

Day 14 – Keith

Seeing as I’m not 100% I requested that we stay in a hotel in Valemount on the way home to break up the ride. Leah way only able to find us a room in Clearwater so today was going to be a really short ride. Due to this there was no sense of urgency to leave at the crack of dawn in the morning. We sat around with Sally and had some coffee in the morning and hit the road around 10. At first I was not sure if I was fit enough to make the ride but I soon was soon comfortable and hitting the sweepers with speed.

We made our way to 100 Mile House where we would soon turn onto highway 24. Instead of just racing up the hill and getting onto 24 we decided to start the drive on the Horse Lake road. The Horse Lake road begins right in the middle of 100 Mile House and spits you out at Bridge Lake. It starts by meandering through the outskirts of 100 Mile House with some great twistys. It then begins to climb and parallels Horse Lake. It’s a really pretty road that I would suggest anyone coming to the Cariboo to hit if your in a sporty little car or motorcycle.

As we had a ton of time to burn today we decided to visit Leah’s cousin Rodney who lives on Lac Des Roche. We pulled up to Rod’s place (well we kinda overshot his drive) and were immediately greeted by Rod walking up his driveway. We sat down on his deck overlooking the lake and had a tea while shooting the shit. Rod is ex-military and really can regale you with some of his service stories. Today it was the Patricia’s in Germany playing rugby against the Germans. It seems that they choose a strategy of extreme violence to the point where they scared the shit out of the other teams. Again this is why you want the Canadians on your side for any war.

After say our goodbyes to Rod we hit the road and quickly made it to Clearwater stopping off at what used to be the Strawberry Moose for a coffee and snack. We only ordered a snack as there is a restaurant here that if your ever in town after 5 pm you need to stop at, the Hop and Hog. We checked into our motel and after a quick shower walked over.

Everything on the menu looks amazing so I convinced Leah we needed to have the platter which has EVERYTHING on it. After Leah and I had our fill we both tapped out and decided to head back to the room to chill out for the night.
