Day 5 – Keith
Leah and I woke up in the campground and had a quick breakfast of hardboiled eggs and I fried up some sausages with a little French press coffee.
It did not take long for us to pack up camp as we have become increasingly efficient and were on the road by around 9 trying to beat the forecasted rain.
As we only had another 58km of road between us and Revelstoke we took it pretty easy, it helps beating the rush of transports that have diverted due to the Jasper wildfires and highway 16 being shut down. We quickly found our way into Revelstoke and found a place to park and find some food. As Leah and had arrived very early, a lot of the locations that we would normally go to were closes so we tried a different approach and went to the Revelstoke museum located in the old post office.

I have to say this was a great break reading about the history of Revelstoke and how it was really founded. Can you imagine the town being called Farwell instead of Revelstoke? Interesting fact but the original owner of a large portion of the land that Revelstoke now sits on was owned by this guy with the last name Farwell. The CPR basically threw a shit fit and moved things around to accommodate their needs and cut him out.
After the museum we went over to Monashee Distilling for a cocktail. At first we were expecting to see a few vodkas, gins and maybe a local whiskey (all of which they had) but then were dumbfounded by the sheer number of spirts they had contained in the overhead racks. Apparently this place has the highest number of bottles outside of Toronto with 1300+. We both tried some of their local products with Leah having a gin cocktail and I had to try their whisky.

3 o’clock rolled around and we decided that it was close enough to the that time we could checkin to our campground. We quickly set up the trailer and as I was just itching for a shower, I helped myself to their facilities.
After we both were ready we headed to the main building and called a cab, both of us were in the mood to drink more than would allow us to drive. Our first stop when we got into town was Rumpus Brewing. We have not been to this little brewery for some time and I have to say I was super impressed with their house beer, a Brett saison with a slight funk and a spicy finish. After Rumpus we wandered over to Craft Bierhaus, Leah had the smoked pork and I had the brisket. The food was amazing.

After super we headed back to Monashee Distilling as we both left earlier on without feeling fulfilled. I immediately asked for an Old Fashioned with very specific requirements and Leah had a tequila as it was on special. We both got into it with Leah having a tequila flight and I had to try this special tequila where they use either chicken or turkey breasts in the distillation process to soften the tannins, it was a pechuga type tequila. I have to say there was no meaty flavour but it truly smoothed it out.

After catching a cab back to camp we were both a little tipsy and ready for bed and whatever awaited us the next day
