Day 8 – Leah
We had to pack up a a very unpacked camp this morning, we had done laundry the night before and there was quite a lineup for the dryers, so I hung all over our clothing across lines in our campground. Classy and resourceful!
Breakfast was in town again at Conversations Coffee House, the food came out faster than the specialty coffees, but it was a great stopping spot.
We quickly set our route to the Glenea Bay ferry, it was great to be off of Highway 1 and we only had a short wait for the next ferry. The electrical gremlins that had started up on Betsy last year seemed to return (intermittently of course). The instrument cluster was staying powered up even after I’d shut off the bike and removed the key. Last year I got into the habit of removing the main fuse at each stop. However, because the cover for the fuse was the flap that liked to open up from time to time, I’d done a redneck fix with electrical tape. I’d removed the fuse at a few stops, moved the electrical tape to the side, then re-applied and wrapped the electrical tape. It was getting to be a pain in the arse.

While on the ferry waiting to disembark, I noticed that the instrument cluster power was intermittently on and off. I then noticed that it was in sync with me pressing on my front brake lever. New redneck fix: a headband wrapped around the brake lever at every stop. If these little “solutions” wouldn’t have made my Dad proud, I don’t know what would have! For those that knew my Dad, he was the KING of redneck engineering and fixing things on the fly with limited supplies on hand. I’m happy to carry on this tradition.
Back to the task at hand: getting to our next destination! The traffic off of the ferry was not overly congested, we cruised for 10km or so before Keith spotted a waterfall that is a great rest stop. We stopped and took our obligatory waterfall selfie, chatted with a family that had a large German Shepard retrieving sticks in and out of the creek, and then continued to Nakusp. We did a quick fuel up, and then Keith had a hankering for ice cream so we made a stop for a scoop each.
After Nakusp we headed to Faquier towards the ferry, we saw eagle nests on top of the power lines aside the road, we even saw an eagle feeding her young ones at one location.
Continuing on our merry way, Keith suddenly decided to brake hard and make turn that we were not planning on. I soon realized that it was because he’d spotted a sign that said Cidery. 🙂
Burton City Ciders had a wonderful offering, and a very friendly cider kitty. Any opportunity for kitty snuggles or pets is something we HAVE to take up.

I must say the day was HOT, like HAWT, hot, HOT! Keith really got into a groove on the road and there was no stopping him. I would have appreciated a stop for a sip of water, or to stretch my leg, but there is no stopping the mojo man once he has his mojo. Thus, we continued on in through Cherryville and finally stopped for fuel in Lumby. We found the RV site that Keith had reserved, dropped off the trailer and then headed into Vernon for dinner at Silverstar Brewing. It turned out that the brewery was a location we had been to before: Martin Brewing but they have rebranded. The food was great, I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I’d started to eat.

Hi to both of you, Really enjoying your travel blog;what a good way to see our wonderful province. Will continue to follow. Audrey
