Day 9 – The day started out with Leah and I zipping into Vernon and going for breakfast as this little dinner right in the downtown area. I think it was called the Dinner on 6th. The food was good and quick so afterwards we decided to head out taste some wines
Our first stop was Grey Monk Winery just outside of Lake Country. We arrived and were immediately greeted by Tony, he walked us through the tasting of their Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Rose and Pinot Noir. Now I was going to ask if we can ship a case of the Rose wine back to Alberta as we were on bikes. No sooner than I had that idea in my head he approached us about the Gray Monk wine club, so of course we had to join.

After Grey Monk we hit Ex Nihlio for a tasting. Any wine fans out there that want an experience, come to this winery. The tasting room is amazing and will just blow you away.

As I felt like I was done with wine we headed to Kelowna to hit a few breweries, the first being Britannia Brewing that just opened up 7 months prior. This place was amazing with a huge outdoor area and a well decorated interior. As it was Hot As F…. We decided to sit inside to cool off. It was at this point that I have to say control your (sorry about the language) fucking kids! Leah and I were seated right beside the door and this one little fucker was in and out every 30 seconds, I’m sure the brewery paid another 50$ in electricity just trying to keep up with this fucker and the AC.

After Britannia we walked across the parking lot to Gray Fox Brewing. Before we entered we were greeted with a gluten free environment sign. This is kinda near and dear to me as my father was diagnosed with celiac years ago and we have never really been able to knock back a few of the regular beers together. Grey Fox is concentrating on all gluten free beers as the owner is also celiac. I have to say he is knocking it out of the park with the first Stout that I’ve ever had that you can’t really tell was not made with proper barley.

After Grey Fox we headed further into Kelowna to stop at Wild Ambition, a brewery that we did not have the opportunity to stop at when we were in the area back in May. The enjoyment of this brewery is that it works with mixed and wild fermentation similar to Trial and Ale or the Monolith in Edmonton which are both local favourites. We have not been here in some time, since they have finished the tasting room and hired staff that know the beer they brew.
As it was Hot as F… we headed back to camp to go for a well deserved dip in lake Kalamalka to cool down. It didn’t take us too much time at camp and were quickly walking the 5 mins to the lake from site. The beach was pretty busy and we got to watch a show of some little douche bag and his friends call out another group, you could tell all eyes were on what was going on. Leah and I just floated on the wonderful lake water until we smelled something skunky! We shouted out to two paddle boarders that were smoking the refer and then offered us a beer. It was a Kokanee… but beggars can’t be choosers. We had a good chat with them as they had both moved from Alberta to BC due to the industry growth.
After swimming we headed to a little dive pizza joint just to the north of the campground. When we arrive we found it busy and the young lady informed us that it was just her at 19 and a 18 year old working that night, and it may take some time. The pizza was great and after giving the poor young girl and her co-worker a good tip we headed back to camp for some well deserved rest.
