Did we get lost?

The morning started like any other day with us seeking coffee so we packed up and headed into Traunstein. Leah had picked out a little cafe in another area that we have not seen and it did not take us long to find parking and make our way into the cafe.

OMG we were not prepared once we entered the cafe, it was incredibly busy and when we were asked by the hostess we both froze. I guess we were both a little bit shocked by the noise and number of people in the cafe. Due this this and after taking a few minutes, we decided on coffee to go and this sweet nutty thing (don’t ask me the name).

Driving down the road we quickly were closing in on the Austrian boarder. When we picked up our rental car I asked if there was anything I needed to know about travel into Austria. Apparently you need to get a Vignette to travel the motorways and they can be purchased at a gas station or two ahead of the boarder.

The first gas station I clearly missed the right ramp and ended up going to the wrong way. The second one just before the boarder we made it and after sorting out our E-vignette we were on our way.

So today we had planned on doing some canyoning with a guide and Leah had all the directions in her phone so she was navigating to the location. North of Salzburg we started heading east into the German Alps. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and I have to say the drive was quite pleasurable.

Driving to Salzburg

Just outside of Unterau we turned west and began to climb up an extremely twisty 20% grade road, I was in my glory. This road just continued to climb, climb, and climb. Soon we past Obersalzberg and just down the road it dawned on me. We were in the wrong place! We were at the meeting place for our trip for the next day.

Leah quickly looked up instructions to the meeting point for the canyoning and plugged it into the nav, and we made our way down yet some more super fun roads to just south of Salzburg. We arrived early thank goodness and finding out there was nowhere to eat at the meeting point, we headed into Hallein. Leah tried three different locations to eat at, only to find that each one was closed. I was beginning to stress, as anyone that knows me, I do not like to be late for anything and judging by the time we had to meet with the guide for canyoning. We eventually found a little cafe to eat at, I had sausage and Leah had goulash soup.

We made our way back to the meeting point and were fitted for a wet suit, harness, helmet, water socks and boots. Our guide gave us a meeting point and we were on our way to the start point on the other side of Salzburg.

Now, unfortunately we have no pictures or video of the Canyoning so here is a Link to a video that shows you exactly the location and what we were in for.

Leah’s heart rate peaked at 178. I suspect during a jump into a pool.

After Canyoning we headed to our hotel to check in, have a shower and head out to have a bite to eat. We picked a small little brewery just a few blocks away called the Die Weiss. It was packed so we had to sit in the bier garten. The food was great, I had the back hendl (chicken) and Leah went with the bratwurst. We then made our way back to the hotel and had a few cocktails at the hotel bar, then off to bed.
