Hawt!

Day 3: Monday August 8, 2022. by Leah

This morning, we had coffee, wandered over to Chad & Amanda’s campground to scrounge more coffee, had a little visit with them and then hit the road. There wasn’t anything open for breakfast that was close to our campground so our breakfast stop was in Creston. Keith wisely asked a local where a good breakfast spot was and she pointed us in the direction of the Buffalo Trails coffee shop. They had great coffee and delicious breakfast wraps. For people passing through, I’d highly recommend it. They have a beautiful patio area with an ice cream stand there as well, so something to keep parents sane and something for kids too.

We headed north on Hwy 3A towards Crawford Bay and the Kootenay Bay ferry, the road and the scenery only improved as we traveled along the road. The road follows Kootenay Lake and has plenty of twists and turns. By the time we lined up for the ferry Keith was grinning from ear to ear.

The day started off so warm that we both left the campground in our vests, the heat only increased in the day so the cool breeze off of the water felt amazing. I really wanted to go for a swim somewhere, particularly because we weren’t able to go the day before. We pulled into our most anticipated destination Toad Rock Motorcycle Campground around 3pm. We dropped off a few bags from Keith’s very loaded bike, settled into our little cabin, and chatted with a few of the bikers hanging around. Toad Rock has some really unique accommodations and a great variety of places to stay. Most are very basic, but there is a wash house with showers to make things more comfortable and the social pavilion where we can visit and unwind. We decided that it was close enough to time for another meal, so we went into Nelson to eat and stock up on supplies. Naturally we ended up at a brewery. Torchlight Brewing had some fun beers on tap, so we each had a flight & a pretzel. We enjoyed sitting in the air conditioning for a while and then ordered our meals, Keith had a burger and I had a salad – like an adult!

We did a quick stop at the grocery store for some snacks and then grabbed some beers for the night. We were both very ready to unwind with some brews and CHILL OUT. We met a lot of people, swapped some stories, and toured through the site a few times. It was a late night, but a great one!
